Me and my boyfriend visited Cefalu, Sicily and it was absolutely beautiful! So I thought I would share my holiday pictures with you…

Calanica Hotel in Cefalu, our view

We stayed outside of Cefalu in a hotel called Calanica. The rooms were individual, beach- hut style bungalows built into the hillside, with each bungalow overlooking the sea. Absolutely perfect if you are looking for peace and quiet.

The hotel had its own private beach, restaurant and also boasted tennis courts and a swimming pool. We mainly stuck to the beach, as that is what we prefer  and we always managed to get a sun lounger, even in the middle of the day! The Beach also had its own little tuck shop, with Mario serving ice creams and drinks throughout the day. Just something to bare in mind; the beach was very pebbly, slippery and sharp so if your going I would recommend packing some surf shoes…or flippers ha! The water was lovely though, very clear and worth the journey through the stones.

To get into Cefalu, the main town, it was about a 40 minute walk from our hotel which we didn’t quite expect, it was quite the trek up and down steep paths. Of course you can get a bus/taxi, but as we are not the best at public transport in foreign countries, we stuck to walking, which was quite scenic and pleasant.

I wouldn’t fancy doing this at night however, as it was quite lonely…or if you’re carrying lots of bottled water…sorry James! 😉

Cefalu itself is a very pretty historic seaside town, overlooked by a massive hill/mountain called ‘La Rocca’; which you can venture up, all the way to the top if you so please. Sadly, it was too hot for my little legs so we admired it from the ground.

Another thing that you can not miss in Cefalu is the Norman Cathedral, which is in the heart of the town in the market square. The cathedral is surrounded by Sicilian restaurants, the perfect place to sit an eat a ice cream or two! We did find that the better restaurants where tucked away off the main square though, down many of Cefalu’s winding side streets.

Cefalu is perfect if you are looking for a traditional Sicilian holiday where you can relax and really get a feel for their way of life, whilst enjoying some truly beautiful scenery!

Let me know if you have visited any where in Sicily/Italy that you would recommend…
